Travelling
on the train in Melbourne, Australia, I saw a
new form of street art which I thought was really very innovative and
clever. It was my first introduction the Crate Man. Crate Men had
started springing up and, for the moment, this
seems to be something which is unique to Melbourne.
This site is
dedicated to the Crate Man, I hope you enjoy the images.
A
word about where these pictures come from
Some of
these photos are my own, and some were sourced form
other places on the internet. I've included links back to the places
where I found the original images, so that the original photographers
are recognised. I'm not trying to rip off the work of others,
if you are the owner of the photo and feel you haven't been
represented correctly, or you would like an image removed, there's an
email address below.
You will see
the link to the original sites when you click on one of
the thumbnails to open the larger version of the picture.
If you have
Crate Men pictures, sightings or information, email perry at

Yarraville -
Drinking Cratey
According to the information I have, this guy is
on the Commercial
Hotel, Hyde Street, Yarraville. That's great, except I can't find a
Commercial Hotel there. I think it's on the corner of Whitehall and
Hall Street. Can anyone help with an update?
South Kensington -
Smokin' Cratey
Smokin' Cratey is on the corner of Kensington
Road and Hobsons Road,
South Kensington. Best viewed from on board a train, Smokin' Cratey is
sitting on container behind the blue building, looking pretty cool!
Unfortunately, he's no longer complete.
Newport - Ride 'em
Cratey
Ride 'em Cratey is sitting on a crane in the rail
yards, between
Newport and Spotswood Stations. You can see him from Hall Street, near
McNeilage
Street. Update 10/2/09 - now in bits around the crane.
Newport - Hanging
Cratey
Hanging Cratey is in the rail yards, between
Newport and Spotswood Stations. You can see him from Hall Street
Westgate Golf
Course - Fenced in Cratey
Fenced in Cratey is trying to climb a fence
adjacent to the creek
running through the Westgate golf course. The best way to see him is
from the train line. Update 10/2/09 - Looking a bit worse for wear!
Newport Mill Cratey
The Newport Mill Cratey is sitting on top of the
old mill in Newport, on the railway line side. Best place to see him is
from Hall Street.
Westgate Golf
Course - Fishing Cratey
Fishing Cratey is sitting next to the fence
adjacent to the creek running through the Westgate golf course,
unfortunately now without the
fishing rod. See the August 2009 picture. The best way to see him is
from the train line.
Westgate Golf
Course - Biker Cratey
Biker Cratey is sitting next to the fence
adjacent to the creek running through the Westgate golf course. The
best way to see him is from the train line.
